January Week 4: GOAL SETTING
“All who have accomplished great things have had a great aim, have fixed their gaze on a goal which was high, one which sometimes seemed impossible.”
– Orison Swett Marden
At Canadian Black Belt Academy Bolton, we’re diving into the power of goal setting this week, using board breaking with a side kick as an example. Achieving this goal takes discipline, focus, and perseverance, just like any other goal in Karate or life.
First, you must learn proper technique. A side kick isn’t just about your leg—it’s about using your entire body to generate strength and precision. This is a reminder that external support, like coaches and peers, makes us stronger and keeps us motivated toward our goals. Next, confidence is key! Visualize yourself breaking through the board. Practice relentlessly, refining your kick until it feels natural.
Then comes focus. Keep your eyes and mind locked on the center of the board. Distractions will make you miss your target or reduce your power. Lastly, embrace speed and decisive action. Like breaking a board, achieving goals in life requires momentum and commitment. Make your plan, commit fully, and move forward without hesitation!
Ask yourself:
Let’s tackle our goals with the same energy and dedication we bring to the mats. Together, we’ll break through every barrier!
